Project objectives and strategy

The aim of the partnership is to cultivate exchange on existing approaches and methods in mobile learning and mutually to develop overall guidelines for mobile learning in adult education within the context of lifelong learning. These general principles will be applied and tested in diverse learning scenarios. Upon conclusion of the project, practical guidelines for multipliers will be available, showing how mobile learning scenarios and methods can be integrated into adult education and further developed. These will enable multipliers to employ the mobile phone as a learning tool, a didactic method, and a field of pedagogical endeavour in their work with, e.g., migrants, multigenerational houses, seniors, media education support schemes (which are of growing significance for all types of educational institutions), in integration work with socially marginalized groups, in museum programmes, etc.

The transnational partnership aims at promoting the transfer of didactic approaches to “mobile learning” developed in various areas of Europe, while adapting approaches developed in schools or universities to the specific circumstances of adult learning outside of formal educational programmes. Connecting and combining various didactic approaches will be of essence. Particularly valuable in this context is the cooperation with the university centres in Florence and London, which both are already very advanced, theoretically and practically, in terms of conceptions and didactics in mobile learning. A further vital asset is the extensive practical experience in media education of the two partners specialised in media literacy, in Germany and Belgium.

State-of-the-art Web 2.0 and interactive applications will be addressed and examined in terms of their didactic value for multipliers – many of whom are not yet familiar with such tools and their meaningful integration into everyday educational contexts. The project participants will learn to incorporate the multi-functional use of mobile devices and "mobile tools" into their pedagogical work, to reflect on the manifold options for individualised mobile learning, to develop application scenarios and to pass their knowledge on to others.
